Seventeen year old Rosalind Rowan was born a princess, the apple of her father’s eye. She loves the thick forests and lush meadows of the Forested Land. She is sometimes selfish and reckless, but she is also kind and loves fearlessly. Rosalind—who is known to everyone but the Queen as Rose—is desperately in love with Gavin Ashford, the dashing and intriguing son of an important lord. She wants nothing more than to marry Gavin and live in a country manor, far away from court. Because once her older sister marries, Rosalind must take up the position of Regent of the Forested Land. But things aren't always simple. When Rosalind uncovers abilities she should never have and sickness tears through the kingdom, the ordered world Rosalind thought she knew threatens to crash around her.

The Forest Heir Elemental Royals Ley Hayley 9781478209669 Books

Princess Rosalind (Rose) Rowan is the second daughter of the King and Queen, in line for Regent of the Forested Land when her older sister marries. She’s madly in love with her betrothed, Gavin Ashford, and enjoys being her own person. Rose is smart, well-liked, learned, diplomatic, and possesses an amount of magical power only the heir should have. Suddenly, a deadly illness sweeps the kingdom and results in Rose becoming the heir to the kingdom. She must fulfill the duties and obligations of that role, no matter how she feels about it. Thick with intrigue and treason, Rose’s world is suddenly changed and she’s not sure she’s ready. Rose must take a stand to save herself and her father’s kingdom, no matter the cost.

THE FOREST’S HEIR is a solid fantasy novel with a very well-rounded and likable main character in Rose. She’s a complex person who, over the course of the book, had to mature beyond her years. While I didn't always agree with her choices/actions, I felt for her and definitely rooted for her to succeed. The world the author has created is multi-faceted and magical, but done so well that the reader doesn’t have to suspend disbelief too deeply in order to enjoy the story. Filled with action, intrigue, romance, and magic, THE FOREST’S HEIR will transport readers to an elegantly dangerous world. I am more than eager to read the next book in this series!

The Forest Heir Elemental Royals Ley Hayley 9781478209669 Books Reviews

Disclaimer I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

This story is absolutely wonderful in that it creates a perfect vision of the world the author has created. It's so easy to envision the locations, the characters, the scenery, etc, and it plays like a movie in your head. I was drawn to each of the characters, and none were left hanging by the wayside as so often happens when the narrative itself is rich in description. So happy I already had the sequel when I finished this one!

4.5 stars
Life is moving along almost perfectly for Princess Rosalind Rowan. She’ll be married in a few months to the love of her life and then installed when the time comes as the Regent of the Forested Land. But how many of us are lucky enough to have such a perfect life? When her sister, the Princess Crowned dies suddenly of a sickness moving through the kingdom shortly before her wedding, Rosalind’s life is thrown into turmoil.

The Forest’s Heir is a wonderful tale of romance, intrigue and adventure. Told in the first person narrative from Rosalind’s point of view it is as though you are sitting down with her and she is recounting the beautiful (at times) and harrowing (at other times) tale of her last year in the Forested Land.

We get to know Rosalind, her first love Gavin and the King of Rivers who she must marry when she takes her sister’s place as the Princess Crowned. All three of these characters have wonderful upstanding characters and it is easy to see why Rosalind is so torn when she must choose between love and duty.

The thing that I loved about the King of Rivers the most is that he didn’t want to rush Rosalind into marriage. He knew he was taking her away from a marriage with someone she loved because of this arranged marriage. Rather than go ahead with the originally scheduled marriage date that was set in the contract when he was to have married Rosalind’s sister, he chose to postpone the wedding for several months to the spring so that she would have time to get used to the idea.

Then a traitor attacks the kingdom and kills the king. Rosalind escapes the castle but is on the run. How will she gain back her throne and rescue her kingdom? The sequel to The Forest’s Heir is titled The Fire’s Princess and will be released on June 4th. It will continue the saga of Princess Rosalind.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Forest’s Heir and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys young adult fantasy. I rate this book 5 stars out of 5.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.

Thought this book was really good. Can not wait for the next one to come out! I know she is a new writer, but has gotten off to a great start! I will definitely buy all of her books!
Loved this story. It is beautifully written. Loved the descriptions of the two kingdoms and the strength of the main character. Hoping for a sequel!
im going to be honest, im not one that just picks up a book and starts reading it. i heard about this particuliar book from a relative. i was told that i would probably like it, so i ordered it, and im so glad that i did! Ley Hayley, did a great job on this novel. you can visualize the whole setting of the book and the characters as you read. i started the book and didnt want to lay it down. i have finished The Forest's Heir and am looking so forward to buying/reading all of her other books!
Here are characters you will care about deeply, with a princess who will make you cheer her on. This author is a master of making the reader feel exactly what her characters are going through, so when Rosalind is in love, you will be, too. And when she's confused or afraid, you'll be right there with her. When it's over, you'll wish you could turn the page and continue. The world created here is fully realized, familiar, yet different from other fantasy realms. The magical system makes perfect sense and flows organically in the story. The content is perfectly appropriate for teen audiences, but will appeal to adults as well. Enjoy!
